After 53 years of service, the coal plant on Vanderbilt’s campus has shut off for good. The plant has converted entirely to natural gas which will reduce the carbon footprint of the plant by over 40%. Natural gas is not only more efficient, it will require less maintenance and is considerably more reliable.
